Maize Meal, or “Upfu” as we like to call it back home, is made from ground maize. In Southern Africa, it is a staple food that can be eaten in various ways. We will soon have this available at the same high quality we were used to at home.
Here are some of the ways it can be eaten:
• Slap Pap (Soft Porridge) – eaten for breakfast, with milk, butter and sugar.
• Stywe Pap – it has a rather thick consistency and can be held in the hand. This is commonly eaten with meat and a savoury sauce.
• Phuthu Pap – is more dry and crumbly and can be eaten in the same way as Stywe Pap. It can also be enjoyed as a side dish with chakalaka when having a braai (BBQ).
Now you can make these Southern African favourites in Australia. Click on our Shopping page or contact us now if you have any questions.
